For my mum's Birthday :)

For my mum's birthday I am painting a picture of herself and my dad. So far I am pleased with the result, but still a long way to go till it's finished :)

Careers Advice Project

I picked out Miner, Plumber and Shepherd to illustrate the first part of this project.
I especially enjoy my mole and his strange face.
The sheepdog worked as a shepherd but I changed him to match the mole when asked to bring them together using the sentence 'He was by far the best at this'.
Naturally this meant that I was going to make my shepherd have a helicopter tail and have millions of balloons hoisting the miner into the air...

The final piece was the length of A2 but quite thin. I used Cross stitch for the balloons, fabric and stitch for the clouds, Graph paper collaged for the sky and then Gouache for characters and hills.

Narwhal eats contaminated mushrooms

This was a fun piece to do, there are layers to this piece but they don't really translate in a photograph.

After thinking of 100 phrases using certain letters from our names (in my case N, E, C, M), I chose Narwhal eating contaminated mushrooms, as making a Narwhal appear to be tripping on mushrooms seemed appropriate, in a way which isn't cruel to animals..

YAY COLOURS!

Man ordered to marry a cow

I honestly hated  this project. I couldn't translate a man being ordered to marry a cow, however eventually I managed to create this which I don't think is too bad. Watercolours and Fine Liners are fun :D

Creating mechanical beings, from two animals...?

Here is my little Mechanical Porcupine/ Emu creation. We had to make a small sequence in a book relating the story to an island of sorts (mine was a pupil of someones eye. Just to be normal..ha)
I also created a 8 sided folded book, where it was to look interesting when folded out as well as folded together.
Not one for 3D work, I manage to make the envelope shaped container for the two, and drew cogs and bolts all over with a dip pen and silver ink. I was proud ;)

mmmm mark-making

During the first week of uni we were asked to fit as many objects into a matchbox as possible, then told to draw them in repetition if we wanted, or scattered in whichever way we thought created an interesting composition.

This is what I came up with using ink and fineliners.

After this exercise we had to use three of the objects and animate them into a seven framed sequence using black ink only.

Printmaking

Here are my watercolour paintings and prints from our printmaking sessions. Top being a Lino print and bottom being an etching. I could have left my etching plate in the solution for longer so that it was a bit clearer though. Really enjoyed it overall :)

Uni work begins... (first year work)

Self Portraits for life drawing.

We were supposed to make them interesting and use lighting effectively. One of them had to have some kind of weird item so I found leopard ears ha.

Had a bit of a break from portrait painting/ drawing, so this was a good exercise to get my practice back.

I am slowly uploading all of my random work before I upload my most recent work.
so here you go.

'Bumblebee' (2009)

My friend Hayley (I preferred the picture unfinished)

I like using selected colours instead of fully colouring as it draws attention to the main details and features.
